2010 Youth Flag Rugby Season Information
Learn the Sport of Rugby (in a non-contact environment)!
The Greater Akron Rugby Foundation (GARF), in conjunction with The Akron Rugby Football Club, is offering a Summer Non-Contact Youth Rugby League for boys and girls ages 6-14. The coaching staff will teach the basics of rugby along with rugby ball handling skills in a fun and safe (non-contact) environment.
Children will be broken up into teams by age-group for games on Saturdays and possible cross-over games against other Youth Programs from Columbus and Cleveland.
With it being summer, we understand that families go on vacation. Players will not be penalized for missing practices or games.
DATES: Flag Rugby will run on Saturdays from June 23 – August 14, 2010
LOCATION: Akron Rugby Facility
AGES: Boys & Girls Age 6-14 are eligible to play
FORMAT: Non-contact (flag) rugby will be played
ATTIRE: Comfortable athletic clothing for practices, uniform for games.
COST: FREE!!!! (each player gets a t-shirt and 8 weeks of rugby)
ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Participants will learn the basics of rugby from veteran instructors in a well supervised, non-contact, and safe environment. The focus will be on introducing the game and above all else… having fun. Rugby is a fast paced game where everyone has the opportunity to catch, pass, kick, and score.
ABOUT GARF: The Greater Akron Rugby Foundation (GARF) was established in 2005 to foster the growth and character of the sport of rugby union football in the Greater Akron community through youth and high school programs for boys and girls under the age of 19. In particular, the foundation seeks to develop amateur players and teams capable of national and international caliber competition. The Greater Akron Rugby Foundation (GARF) is a public limited liability charity corporation. In July, 2005, the Foundation was granted 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization status by the Internal Revenue Service. Any donation to the Foundation is tax deductible.
